Both major parties in Western Australia are losing votes to One Nation, according to a new DemosAU WA state poll.

The poll of 969 voters shows Labor on a primary vote of 36% (-5.4% swing since the election), the Liberals on 21% (-7% swing), One Nation 17% (+13% swing), the Nationals 4% (-1.2% swing), the Greens 13% (1.9% swing) and any other candidate 9% (-1.3% swing).

On a two-party preferred basis, Labor leads the Coalition 57-43%.

Roger Cook leads Basil Zempilas on preferred premier 43-30%.

According to voters, 43% believe Western Australia is heading in the wrong direction compared to 39% in the right direction. 

Asked whether the government was doing a good job or bad job on a range of issues, 62% of voters said the government was doing a bad job on housing, with the same figure recorded for cost of living.

Hospitals and health recorded a net good job score of -28%, the economy -18%, crime -18% and budget management -14%.

DemosAU Head of Research George Hasanakos said while the results showed a surge in support for One Nation, it was somewhat muted compared to what was happening federally and interstate.

“While Labor is taking a hit on the primary vote after losing some votes to One Nation, they are still doing relatively well amongst over 55s, which is a large reason for their lead.

“The WA State Liberals will breathe a sigh of relief to find they are still ahead of One Nation, unlike the Federal Liberals who trail the populist party.  

“However, One Nation has taken a large chunk of the Liberals’ vote in regional and outer metropolitan Western Australia, and given the situation in other states and nationally, there is a risk that One Nation could still overtake the Liberals.

“The WA Liberals have a fight on their hands with the One Nation challenge and Basil Zempilas will have to do more to retain traditional Liberal voters outside of inner metropolitan Perth. 

“While Roger Cook and Labor have a strong electoral lead, the results from our issues’ questions, such as health and hospitals, budget, crime and the economy, show that the government is starting to show its age.”

*Due to the recent surge in the One Nation vote federally, DemosAU decided to include One Nation in the poll of the Lower House for the first time.

Notes: The poll of 969 Western Australian voters was conducted from 12 to 23 February 2026 with an effective margin of error of +/- 3.8 per cent.
